Dr. Cottrell grew up in Houston and San Antonio. He received his undergraduate as well as medical degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. While there, he distinguished himself as outstanding resident of the year in 1999. He initially practiced in North Platte, Nebraska, but soon realized that Texas was his home and returned in 2005. He has worked in the Garland, Rowlett, and Rockwall areas where he twice served as Chief of Staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at Lake Pointe. He also chaired the credentials committee for 4 years. Dr. Cottrell has a keen interest in reflux as well as minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgery. He is very excited to have joined Advanced Surgical of North Texas and looks forward to bringing these skills to the North Dallas Metroplex. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and anything with a microchip.
